No screen, no batteries, no single correct way to play. What happens next is entirely the child's: a forest, a zoo, a rescue mission, a family, an argument between a tiger and a toucan about who owns the log.

The figures are hand-painted with real detail — the fox's white-tipped tail, the flamingo's layered feathers, the fine stripes across the tiger's back — and sized for small hands to grip and carry. Deliberately, the animals come from different corners of the world rather than one habitat, which turns sorting them into its own game: who lives in the forest, who lives in the jungle, who would never meet in real life. The included two-tier wooden stand does double duty. During play it's a cliff, a bridge, a canopy, a stage. Afterwards it's a shelf, so the set ends the day looking like something you'd happily leave out on a windowsill rather than something to be shovelled into a bin.

Made for ages 3 and up, this is the kind of open-ended set that grows with a child rather than being outgrown in a month: at three it's naming and sorting and carrying things around the house, at five it's elaborate ongoing storylines with rules you won't understand. It builds vocabulary, fine motor control, classification and narrative play without announcing that it's doing any of that. Wipe the figures with a damp cloth; keep the wooden stand out of water.
